Marlin: The Safe Default

Marlin powers millions of printers. It is stable, well documented, and works on almost any 8-bit or 32-bit board. If you own a Creality machine or any open-frame printer, you have probably used Marlin. It is not the fastest option, but it is predictable and easy to troubleshoot.
Klipper: Speed and Flexibility
Klipper offloads motion planning to a Raspberry Pi or similar host, which lets older hardware run faster and more precisely. Input shaping, pressure advance, and macros are where Klipper shines. The downside is setup complexity. You need to be comfortable with configuration files and occasional Linux commands.
Closed Ecosystems: Convenient but Locked
Brands like Bambu Lab use their own firmware tied to their own slicers and cloud systems. The experience is smoother, updates are automatic, and features like AI spaghetti detection actually work. The trade-off is less freedom to modify settings or hardware.
