The brand has just expanded its family with two glow-in-the-dark PLA filamentsPLA Silk Luminous Multicolor and PLA Luminous Multicolored — that charge under ordinary daylight or a desk lamp and release a soft, steady glow for hours in darkness.

What Makes a Luminous Filament Glow?

Both new materials are loaded with phosphorescent pigment. When photons hit the spool, electrons in the pigment jump to a higher energy state; as they relax back down, the stored energy is re-emitted as visible light over time. The result is a classic daylight-charge / dark-time-glow cycle that is completely passive — no electricity, no wiring, nothing to break.

Charging Best Practices

  • Bright, diffuse light charges fastest — a north-facing window or an LED panel beats a lamp shade.
  • Longer charge = longer glow; 5 minutes gives a short afterglow, 30 minutes gives hours.
  • Avoid film coating — a matte surface scatters light back, while a gloss varnish dims the emission.

Printing Settings That Keep the Pigment Happy

  • Nozzle 190–210 °C — hotter than 220 °C can dull the phosphor.
  • Bed 45–60 °C with a PEI or textured surface for solid first layers.
  • Slow and steady — 40–60 mm/s gives even pigment distribution.
  • Dry when parked; phosphorescent powders hydrate and dim if left in humid air.
