Why Resin Prints Fail

Resin printing rewards patience but punishes small mistakes. Most failures trace back to a handful of causes: exposure settings, temperature, support design, and post-cure handling. Here are the common problems and how to fix them.

Layer Delamination

When layers split apart, the part usually tears between the build plate and the FEP, or between layers. Common causes are under-exposure, a cold resin vat, or insufficient lift height.

  • Raise exposure time in small steps (0.2-0.5s)
  • Keep resin between 25-30°C
  • Increase lift distance so each layer fully separates from the FEP

Warping and Shrinking

Resin shrinks as it cures. Large flat surfaces and thin walls pull inward, causing warping. Add supports to flat edges, hollow thick sections, and avoid printing large flat faces parallel to the plate.

Bloom and Rough Surfaces

White chalky residue ("bloom") usually means the part wasn't cleaned properly before curing, or it was cured while still wet with solvent. Wash thoroughly, let the part dry completely, then post-cure.

Support Collapse

Heavy islands and under-supported overhangs are the classic cause. Increase support density, use medium or heavy tips on load-bearing areas, and orient the model to minimize large unsupported regions.

Using a reliable, well-matched resin takes one variable out of the equation. A consistent resin makes exposure tuning far more predictable.
