Modern printers routinely hit 250–300 mm/s, but not every filament is happy at that pace. Pick the wrong material and you get stringing, weak layers or clogs. Here is a practical guide to matching filament to a fast machine.
PLA+ — The All-Rounder
PLA+ is the easiest fast material. It flows well, prints cleanly and is forgiving to tune. A dedicated high-speed PLA+ pushes this further with a lower melting profile built for 300 mm/s.
- Best for: prototypes, decorative parts, batch jobs.
- Temp: 200–230°C nozzle, 50–60°C bed.
PETG — Tough and Practical
PETG adds heat and impact resistance over PLA+. It prints a little slower and can string more, but modern formulations handle 150–200 mm/s comfortably.
- Best for: functional parts, outdoor prints, brackets.
- Temp: 230–250°C nozzle, 70–80°C bed.
ABS — Heat Resistant but Demanding
ABS needs an enclosure and higher temperatures, which makes fast printing harder to control. Keep it for parts that must survive heat, and slow down if you see warping.
- Best for: automotive, enclosures, heat-exposed parts.
- Temp: 240–260°C nozzle, 90–110°C bed.
TPU — Flexible and Getting Faster
TPU has long been the slow material, but newer dual-drive extruders (like Creality's upcoming KliTek) are changing that. Choose a 95A TPU for a good balance of flexibility and printability.
- Best for: phone cases, gaskets, flexible hinges.
- Temp: 220–240°C nozzle, 40–50°C bed.
